An update from Angry Pixie!

Hey all, this is just a quick update on how the show is going now we are in the final stages of the process.

Today was an eventful day for the Faraway Estate residents! We re-explored Sam's arrival at the estate and how this affects certain characters. It's safe to say that you really should not peep in Angry Pixie's window or touch any of her books without asking!

We also had a look at the Troll society and how they interact with each other given the hierarchy that they live by... The silly Trolls definitely need the help of the worker Trolls to keep them from stepping on the toes of the Queen Troll! Moreover, the Faraway Estate needs to be very careful; these Trolls are sneaky!

How Sam begins to bond with the residents was also on the list of things to be approached today.
Will Angry Pixie accept Sam due to their mutual competitiveness and love of charades?
Who knows...

To finish the day, our musical director (Ian) came in to lead us in a vocal warm-up and then our musically talented Saucepan (Lulu) and Joe (Cheryl) taught us a few songs that they had created for the show!

As I've said, we are in the final stages of making the show and it is getting very exciting; there's even been a mention of a potential Slippery Slip!

Don't forget to check for the next update!

An Update from Charlie

Hi All,
We are now in our fourth week of preparation with only a few weeks left until we set on tour!
This week we are back on craft, creating our set and making the costumes. We have our troll costumes ready and a magical Moonface being created. Our set is growing bigger and more colourful with our designer drawing out the details, including the magical tree roots that grow all around the estate. We have another two skyscraper shields ready, and are beginning work on the estates bins. We will be sure to keep you updated on all of our magical happenings!

Here are some pictures of the set created this week:

Is that roots I see?

Do you believe in magic?

Hello Everyone!
Do you believe in magic? Our director Hannah Sharkey does, and thinks she may have seen some of the residents of The Faraway Estate about on their daily business!

"I just met Angry Pixie and Moonface on the bus!
Moonface is sat down on a busy bus humming to himself and looking out the window.
Angry Pixie enters grumbling ...and sits down heavily next to Moonface. He begins kicking the newspaper by moonfaces feet.
'Do you want the paper' says moonface smiling and helpfully picking it up for him. 'Going to wrap your chips in it' he offers with an jolly smile. 'No I'm going to read it' retorts angry pixie rudely. 'Whatever you like man' says Moonface in a calming deep voice 'whatever you like' and he goes back to looking out the window and humming sweetly. Angry Pixie continues to read the guardian sport, intermittently grumbling loudly. They both sit contentedly side by side as they ride off into the grey of the city.
Can you spot any characters this weekend? If so please share!

A word from Lulu

'Today we had to move the set again into a new rehearsal room, then started off with a couple of concentration games. We did the usual discussion exercise talking about a topic of our choice to build pronunciation techniques, today the topic became pretty heated on the idea of cloning and wether or not it is ethical. We then talked about our character questionnaires that we were asigned for homework and some really funny and interesting ideas came up. Once we were all focused and warmed up we then went into physicalising the characters we picked for the questionnaire and started interacting with each other as them. We were then divided into groups to devise scenes (the tree coming to life, the tree being magical and the tree starting to die) we were given a few advice from the director on which to improve. Consequently we did some improvising, we did an exercise with two contrasting narrators and the rest of the cast being actors performing what the narrators were saying. It was interesting as it gave us the possibility to play around with different characters. Also the freedom given to the narrators to say whatever they wanted brought the story line to several diverse pathways which was really engaging and fun to do. We discussed possible props at the end and costumes which we have come up with so far and also gave our character preferences to the director.' - Lucrezia

Our Production Blurb

'Can you spot the T.Rolls lurking in the shadows of the festival? They will tell you when they are planning their attack. Sam and her friends are relying on you to help save the magical tree from the T.Rolls! If we don’t save the Far Away Estate and the enchanted tree that grows inside, then these majestic characters will be without a home - and who knows who the T.Rolls will come for next!'

Hello Everyone,

Just thought I would introduce myself, I'm Rebekah and I'll be working with Jake to keep you guys up to date on the goings on of The Faraway Estate!
Here is the blurb for our production! Enjoy!

'The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama collaborates with one-to-watch director Hannah Sharkey to present a workshop exploring ‘The Fate of The Faraway Estate’. Inspired by Enid Blyton’s classic tale ‘The Folk of the Faraway Tree’, and the Focus E15’s housing protest, the workshop explores themes of community, housing, and people power! Participants are promised an interactive experience that allows children and adults alike to help decide the fate of the Faraway estate, its magical tree, and it's weird and wonderful residents.

Follow Sam, a girl who always sees the worst in the world, as she finds herself immersed in this peculiar community. Sam has been sent to stay in this mysterious, magical tower block to regain her lust for life, but she finds herself drawn into an eccentric community, built around the enchanted tree that grows, impossibly, through the middle of the block. Sam’s cynical nature is challenged when this unique neighborhood is under threat from the terrifying T.Rolls developers, and she needs your help to stop them tearing down it down!'
